Wow! Has it really been almost three weeks since my last post? Time flies. School started for my 3rd grader, my house has been very quiet during the day. ( : And my 3 year old and I have been playing. It has been a lot of fun.
In running news...the Kauai marathon is approaching FAST! Only 30 days! The past few weeks I have been kind of dreading this race. It has been soooooooooooooo humid and my running has really suffered. This has been the hardest training summer EVER. How do you beat the humidity? I have always trained in the dry heat. Let me tell you...IT IS DIFFERENT! I am struggling with finding the right balances with everything. So, any tips you may have, pleeease, pass them my way!
I went to the marathon website and I got that twinge of excitement back. Apparently, the course is hilly. I love hills! And Dean Karnazes is the official host. There are only 1500 entrants and it is sold out. Even though I live on Kauai, I have not run any part of the course. Going to "town" is a hassle, especially on a Saturday, when I do my long runs...everyone else on the north shore is headed that way too! So, it will be a new and hopefully exciting route for me. I do know that it will be beautiful! How can it not be, it is Kauai!
This is near the finish line.
Have a great weekend everyone. Aloha!

wow, what a great finish line to train for! I'm trying to get myself in gear for a half marathon, waaaay up in upstate NY! : )
YOu LOVE hills? You are crazy!! To each her own I guess. Best of luck with the next 20 days. The Finish Line is AMAZING!!
Looks great! Yes, it has been a while since you posted. You've been busy, that's okay.
I live in Chicago and this weekend we are experiencing a heat index of around 98degrees with 65% humidity.
I make it a point during these especially hot and muggy summer days to get my runs in early in the morning when it's cooler.
Washing down a few salty pretzels with water before and after a run helps me stay hydrated too.
Good luck beating the humidity!
uggg. i can't run in humity. good luck with that!!
I have no advice whatsoever for you on the humidity, I'd be dying! But I am totally jealous of your life in Hawaii if that helps any :)
Training in the humidity's been zapping my energy & motivation - GAH!
And this love affair with hills - can't empathize with that one ;)
Wow, those pics got me kind of excited too, and I'm not even running the race. :o)
The humidity really does make training for a marathon tough. A couple of things that help me: an ice cold towel(get it wet and put in the refrigerator overnight) and store in an insulated bag to grab when I take a mid-run break (because it is just so hot) and to freeze my water bottles about halfway full of water or Gatorade.
Hope your training goes well!
Sure, rub it in.. I really wish I could run there too. I guess dreams never die... I cannot wait to see your pictures. Please take many.
that sounds like it will be a great race.... and if you love hills... wow, i hope someday i'll say the same! ! good luck with your training up to the race.
