Training

I ran my last training run before the Deseret News Marathon last Saturday.  I actually ran with my friend Heidi and it was a really great run.  The first five miles was uphill which meant the last five were downhill.  I love hills!    In all the years I have been running, I've always trained alone.  I haven't wanted to slow someone down OR to have to slow down myself.  So I have always shied away from running with a partner.   It was actually an eye opener for me.  There really is something to training with a friend.  I didn't take my ipod and it was totally refreshing to hear our feet hitting the pavement.  I have really missed that.  I have a renewed enthusiasm!  Heidi is training for her first half marathon.  Go Heidi!

I started my taper last week and I really haven't had that "madness" this time around.  Granted, I have been super busy.  We have had family in town all week, I've taken the kids swimming, I taught a CPR class and took a trip to the farm.  So I really haven't had time to think about the upcoming race.  I am looking forward to trying the acelerade/gatorade endurance combo in an actual race though.  I've been using it in my long runs and haven't had any nausea.. cross your fingers!

Good luck for the race!

Most of my present training plan comes from a book called "Brain Training for Runners" (it's available on amazon if you want more details). I modified the training a bit, I had to shorten it by a few weeks because there was not enough time for the complete marathon training plan, and I usually run a tempo and a long run on consecutive days. Apart from that, I follow the book's recommendation fairly closely.

Hey! I just found your new blog. I'm glad Heidi pointed me in your direction; I was so sad when I couldn't access your other one anymore.

I'm so jealous that you'll be doing DesNews tomorrow! I'd love to be running it. Have you done this one before? You'll have to tell me all about it, and what you think, and how it compared to Ogden! Good luck, though! I'm doing a 10k tomorrow at least. Hopefully next year...

Hey, I need a race post!! I tried to call you earlier, but you weren't home. I thought about you yesterday, so hopefully my good luck vibes worked : ). Thanks for running with me last weekend - we'll do it again soon!

I thought I'd leave my response here (is there an email someone function on blogs I wonder?). No I haven't trained with any groups up here. A lot of it with me is just the randomness of when I run. I run after the baby's eaten in the early morning. But I have done several group runs with and am a member of the Sojourner's Running Club (www.srcutah.com) in Orem. While I'd like to do more with them, no way with a new baby and travel time/gas. But there are a couple Saturday runs that are great marathon training. I'm seriously thinking about Hope to Hobble, Labor Day weekend. You don't have to be a member to run with them, so let me know if you're interested. I'm doing 18 Saturday the 16th if you're interested.
