Mistakes....

Yes, I found my mojo...I just found it too much...let me explain. Since living in Hawaii, my running has been lacking. Not running as many miles, my runs have been hit and miss over the past several months. I ran the Mesquite marathon in November with running no more than 20 miles total in the 4 weeks prior...then I ran the LV marathon with even less...and to top that off, I hadn't been doing a lot of strength training for these wheels of mine. So, finding my mojo has been a real blessing, but I have been running way too much...6 days a week, I haven't been able to get enough. You see where I am going with this don't you? The last few days I have had a weird twinge in my left tibia...feels like a stress fracture could be lurking in there somewhere...so I am being forced to lay off the running a bit...frustrating, yes. I know better and I have just been dumb. Even seasoned runners make stupid mistakes, well, maybe not all of them, but this one sure did. So, where do I go from here? Well, taking a few days off is the start. We cleaned out our garage, and the hubby set up the weight equipment...WOOHOO! I have most of my gym back. So I will be working hard to strengthen my legs and I will not make that mistake again! I have been fracture free for over 10 years and I really don't want another one..EVER!

I am still feeling great about my weight loss efforts and looking forward to this next week!

I had 3 chocolate covered strawberries tonight...yummy!!!! My first treat in weeks! And worth every calorie! Happy Valentine's Day!~

You are smart to recognize it now before it gets any worse. Hope you heal quickly!!!

I'm glad you're getting the running back... too bad that you're feeling it. :(

I hope the recovery is quick and complete!

I don't think I'd have too difficult of a time wanting to run if I lived in Hawaii. I'm just being sarcastic since I live in Connecticut, it's cold, and I can't run now anyhow! Glad you were smart enough to shut it down when you felt the pain. So focus on your strengthening and I hope your only pain is the "no pain no gain" kind.

I make the same mistake of feast or famine when it comes to running. It's so easy to let it go, & just as easy to get carried away when it feels great.

Oh, no! You are being smart to take a little time off. You'll have to let me know what your strength training plan consists of! Glad you found your mojo.

Yes, BACK OFF of your running for a few days and see how it feels. You don't want to make it worse by running on it now (that's the mistake I made with your stress fracture). Glad you've got the mojo back, though. That must feel good!

Come to Oahu and see Jessica Tranchina for an Active Release Therapy (ART) session! It's basically where she finds your tight/trouble spots and then gets her hands into them while you use the muscles- so different than deep tissue massage in that you are an active participant in the releasing of the muscle. It works! It won't heal a stress fx of course, but if there's soft tissue damage around the area it'll for sure heal that. It's NOT something you have to go back weekly for- 1 or 2 sessions should do the trick. :) Unfortunately I doubt there is anyone doing it on Kauai? Maybe though. Google to check. There are only 4 folks here who do it, and the other 3 are chiropractors who do ART in the side and I wasn't interested in having my back cracked for my calf injury. ;)
