Why I Run

Have I mentioned that I love running? I love the way I feel after a run! I run because it makes me happy. I run because it makes me feel strong. Running is a big part of what defines me as an individual. I started running about 15 years ago, mainly to lose weight. But it became a way of life for me...an obsession, really. I remember as a girl growing up in St. George, having the marathon here every October. I loved going to the park and watching the runners cross the finish line. The looks of joy, satisfaction, empowerment, even pain on the runner's faces struck a cord with me even then. I wanted to experience that too! Thus began my marathon quest. After I ran my first marathon, which was St. George, I was hooked! It was the hardest thing I had ever done, it was also the most empowering. I loved being able to push myself to the limit and realize how amazing the human body really is. The more you push it, the more it gives. I love that! I am always amazed at what you can accomplish if you just put your mind to it. It is as simple as believing you can, the rest just falls into place. I am grateful to have a healthy body, that I can run and push myself to bigger and better things.

Have a great week. Keep running.

Excellent post! It definitely sums up why I am run! All your reasons, plus after my 10 miles on Sunday I didn't feel at all guilty about that piece of cake! :)

Such a great post! It's so easy to get drawn into running as a lifestyle- not just a workout you do to keep the pounds down...Thanks!

Enjoyed your post. St. George was almost my first marathon in 2007. I was registered but then we moved and I ended up running my first marathon in Indiana. Perhaps someday I will get back and run it!
